  4. We have some members in Japan but we welcome more

Brief History

  1. Many years ago AMWA was the Advanced Authoring Format Association (AAF Association) in the year 2000
    1. Co-creators of the MXF file format along with our colleagues at the EBU and the SMPTE
    2. Creator of the Advanced File Format for editing

  1. Name changed to Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) in 2008
  2. New focus on workflow and software
  3. Continue support for file formats

    3. For example, MXF for delivery of finished programs
      (e.g.  AMWA AS-11 UK DPP HD)

Introduction to the Video Services Forum (VSF)

  1. VSF is an international association
    1. Three membership types
      1. Service providers, end users, manufacturers
    2. Focused on interoperability, quality metrics and education
    3. Domain is  video networking technologies
  2. Began with AT&T company
    1. An informal video operator group inside AT&T
    2. People helping each other with special events
  3. AT&T was broken up into many companies in 1984
  4. Serious competition in the 1990s
  5. Competitors needed a place to
    work together on technical issues
  6. VSF was founded in 1998
  7. First VidTrans conference held in 1999
  8. First VSF technical meetings held in 2001
  9. Technical work
    1. Code of Practice 3 (COP3) became first SMPTE ST 2022 documents (inherited from Pro-MPEG Forum)
    2. High Bit Rate Audio/Video (HBRAV group) became SMPTE ST 2022-6
    3. Studio Video over IP (SVIP group) TR-03 & 04 became
      SMPTE ST 2110
    4. Hitless Protection group became SMPTE ST 2022-7

Current activity

  1. JPEG 2000 Ultra-low latency J2K-ULL
    1. Technical work complete, editing of final document still to be finished
  2. RIST group
    1. Focused on reliable transmission of professional video over the Internet
    2. Work underway
  3. SVIP group
    1. Developed a method for specifying formats in SMPTE ST 2110
    2. Next work is to establish interoperability points
  4. Ongoing sponsor of JT-NM interoperability events
